Welcome to Calabasas Toastmasters
If you’ve watched the TV news recently, you’ve probably asked yourself, Why are THESE guys running the country? You may have even said to yourself that you could do a better job.
But they’re on TV, and you’re watching it. They have mics shoved into their face, and the only thing shoved into your face comes out of the microwave. That’s because they’re leaders and you’re not. They communicate effectively, and you don’t.
Luckily, communication and leadership are skills. Leaders aren’t born (the Bush and Kennedy families notwithstanding). They’re made.
Communication and leadership are teachable skills, like juggling, doing long division, or playing World of Warcraft. Communication and leadership are certainly more useful skills. However unlike World of Warcraft, you can’t just do them sitting at home in your underwear.
If you want to communicate and lead, Toastmasters is a great place to learn. It’s effective, fun, and cheap. (That last one matters nowadays.) Our club is one of hundreds in the region, and over 10,000 worldwide. One of them is probably right for you.
If you show up and do the work, you too can communicate. You too can lead. (In fact, a great many people in public life have come through the Toastmasters program.) And though you might not end up Leader of the Free World, there’s lots of other places that need leaders: for instance, why are THOSE guys running your Homeowners’ Association?
See you there.
